Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available to all MRWED students who can demonstrate that they already possess current skills and knowledge relevant to the qualification. Making an RPL application requires the students to complete an enrolment form and then provide evidence substantiating their claim for competency.

After reviewing the submitted evidence, a MRWED assessor will contact the participant with advice about whether or not the evidence satisfies the assessment requirements for each of the Units of Competency included in that qualification. If the provided evidence is sufficient, authentic, current and valid then the applicant will not be required to undertake any further training or assessment prior to issuance.

The Diploma of Training Design and Development can be paired with the Diploma of Vocational Education and Training to create a Dual Diploma option, which will enable graduates to create a more well-rounded set of VET skills.

PRICE: $2000.00 Subject to student eligibility

Applicants for the TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development will schedule a time to discuss their RPL application with a member of the MRWED Learner Success Team prior to commencing their enrolment. During this RPL meeting we will discuss evidence requirements, previous experience, and the type of evidence the applicant is likely to produce.

To view the evidence requirements and enrol into TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training via RPL, download the RPL kit here.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have to complete my TAE50216?

The enrolment period is 24 months from the date of enrolment. Please note that due to a recent update to the TAE training package, we will not be able to accept any assessment submissions after the 1st of November 2024.

MRWED does not mandate a specific way of submitting your evidence and we recommend that you do not map your evidence to the Units of Competency. However, we do prefer that you organise your evidence into folders for the Unit of Competency to which they most logically apply. If you do this, please do NOT submit the same evidence into multiple folders. Your MRWED assessor will look at each individual item you submit and automatically check for its relevance to all Units of Competency.

The assessor will take an integrated and holistic approach to assessment and is looking for:

  • Evidence of the specific evidence requirements for each unit of competency.
  • Evidence of valid, current products that align to the units of competency, the performance criteria and assessment requirements, which can be authenticated as the work of the candidate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of training and assessment theory and the demonstrated ability to apply it to real-world situations.
  • Evidence of the application of required skills and key competencies.

From the date MRWED receives your portfolio of evidence and RPL Submission Cover Sheet you can expect an assessor to contact you within 10 business days.

Evidence needs to be provided in a range of ways to ensure that it is valid, authentic, current and sufficient. Because of these reasons, evidence typically needs to be provided in both documented and observed (by either the assessor or other qualified third parties) forms and included in your submission. This is why RPL cannot be granted from a phone conversation alone.
